GCSE Maths

Success in GCSE Maths is essential for students; it shows that they are capable and confident of using a wide range of sophisticated numeric and analytical skills. Careful preparation leading up to the practice and final examinations has a significant impact on the end result, and is essential if your students are to reach their potential.

Focused and specific revision sessions can help to reassure and build the confidence of students, providing them with the motivation and knowledge they need to move forward and plan their own independent revision programme.

To help support your Mathematics team, we can take the pressure out of organising revision sessions by delivering workshops at your school that meet the specific needs of your students. You decide the audience, whether this is students aiming for C grades or the most able striving to reach A*. We are also able to tailor the workshops to meet your time requirements, for example a single one-day workshop or a series of Saturday morning sessions.

The workshops are carefully designed to combine a variety of practical activities and tasks with a clear focus on the Assessment Objectives for all examination boards. Number and algebra, shape, space and measures, and handling data are all covered, with dynamic and focused approaches that will allow students to apply their maths to a range of interesting and functional real-life situations whilst preparing them for the rigours of the examinations.

Sample Workshop

Workshops follow a coherent and structured narrative, capturing students' interest whilst enabling the continued progress and development of ideas throughout the day. One of our workshops places students in charge of organising the Olympic Games; here, students will engage in a number of open-ended problems, allowing them to:

Design Olympic areas
Organise the opening ceremony
Participate in events

These activities require students to discuss, apply and analyse a variety of mathematical skills and techniques to find solutions to relevant and challenging situations. Throughout the day, students will be shown how these skills can be applied specifically to the demands of the exam.

By structuring our workshops in this way, we aim to generate an enthusiasm and enjoyment of the challenge of mathematics, whilst consolidating the higher order skills associated with 'using and applying mathematics' in line with OfstedÕs Understanding The Score report.

Students will also receive a comprehensive revision booklet, outlining useful revision activities and allowing them to monitor and assess their progress leading up to the exams.
